Experience interactive keynote sessions with the dynamic Dr William DeJean. Explore how identity, diversity and social justice can empower or limit people’s possibilities – and courageously we will inquire into breaking through structures, collectively and individually.

Forum includes breakout workshops which will help increase workers’ capacity to proactively respond to diversity in their workplace.

Breakout Workshops include:

Culture, Child Protection and Working with CALD Families - Mira Mitrovic and the Multicultural Support Workers Project

In this workshop Mira and her team will explore the different cultural perspectives on children's safety and how these can often conflict with child protection interventions. As well, the team will demonstrate why it is essential to apply culturally sensitive and appropriate responses when working with CALD clients, and how these approaches must be tailored for each individual family or child.

Introduction to Working with Children and Families from Refugee Backgrounds - Geneve O'Connor and the Beyond Diversity Team

The Beyond Diversity team will deliver an introductory workshop on the impact of the refugee experience on children and families, the unique challenges they may experience after arriving in Australia and some strategies workers can apply to support the recovery, wellbeing and settlement of both child and family.

Forum Learning Outcomes:

  • Increase in knowledge of demographic diversity and vulnerabilities in the Penrith LGA.
  • Increase in workers' appreciation of strengths and challenges in diversity.
  • Increase in workers capacity to proactively respond to diversity in their work.
