CASEWORK AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WORKER - ARABIC SPEAKING COMMUNITIES
Employment Status - Part Time - 21 hours per week
Award - SCHADS Award - Level 3, Pay point 1
Location - Head Office, Level 4, 1 Horwood Place, Parramatta NSW 2150
Terms - 21 hrs per week, fixed term up to 30 June 2019 (option for contract renewal)
OUR ORGANISATION
Established in 1995, the Community Migrant Resource Centre (CMRC) was formed to provide high quality services, settlement information, support and advocacy to humanitarian entrants and newly arrived migrants in order to facilitate successful integration into the broader fabric of Australian society. We aim to equip and empower these communities, by providing innovative solutions to challenges they may face including social cohesion, economic participation, education and career pathways, financial pressures and accommodation.
YOUR ROLE
We have a wonderful opportunity for an experienced casework and community development worker to provide settlement assistance to Arabic speaking clients and communities (with a focus on Syrian and Iraqi communities). You will enjoy utilising your excellent interpersonal and bilingual skills (English & Arabic) for community development with varied stakeholders and applying a creative/innovative approach to your role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Community development work: liaison and networking with partners and stakeholders across community, government, education and NGO sectors
Provision of casework services for newly arrived refugees, humanitarian entrants and migrants
Coordination of group work activities
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED INCLUDE
Relevant tertiary qualifications in social welfare, social work or related fields, or 3+ years related experience
Demonstrated experience/ability to undertake casework and facilitate group activities
Demonstrated community development experience, liaison and networking with community organisations, government and non-government agencies
Understanding of the issues and needs of newly arrived refugees and humanitarian entrants (in particular Arabic speaking communities from Syria and Iraq)
Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed practice
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and spoken - Arabic and English)
Strong computer proficiency with Microsoft applications including Email, Word etc
Valid Police Check and Working with Children Check to be provided
